This little cottage is located in the context of an old Elizabethan House, and surrounded by its outhouses, coachhouses and associated barn buildings. Our proposal was to enlarge the space within the building, while offering in more light, playfulness and joy. By opening up the roof / ceiling-scape we were potentially weakening the external wall fabric so our proposal was to make a habitable-buttress with echoes of an industrial heritage, or working stable yard.
